Vietnam had to rest content with just one bronze medal at the 2011 world taekwondo championships in Gyeongju, South Korea after Le Huynh Chau won it in the men’s under-63kg event on Friday.

Chau lost to Britain’s Paul Michael Harvey while Thailand’s Nacha Punthong lost to the host’s Lee Dae Koon in the other semifinal match.

Chau and Nacha both got bronze medals while Harvey won the silver medal after losing to Lee in the final.

After six days of competition, the hosts are on top with three gold, four silver and three bronze medals, followed by Iranian contestants with three gold, one silver and two bronze medals and China with two gold and two silver medals.

With the sole bronze medal, Vietnam ended the tournament in 16th place out of the 23 teams. Apart from Chau, the other martial artists failed to make it past the first or second round.
